SERVPRO of Southwest Portland receives a call regarding a customer smelling mold in their crawlspace were weeks ago they had water down there that caused the mold. The water got into the crawl space because a pipe had burst and that caused the mold to grow at a rapid rate. The customer mentioned that the smell was so strong that the industrial hygienists told the homeowner that they were living in an unsafe situation causing the homeowner to leave their home while we worked.
As promised, our crew was out to the home within the hour of the call ending. During the initial inspection the drying plan was created it was going to be an all hands on deck kind of job. Our crew needed to set containment in the coat closet for crawlspace access, set air scrubber, in addition to all flex ducting and isolation needed to be removed from metal ducting. In the main level of the home, containment was also needed and was outlined in the industrial hygienists’ protocol, also air scrubbers were set in each containment area in order to remove affected drywall and sand any framing that might be stained.
Our crew noticed that demolition was also going to be needed to help with drying. The wet vinyl and underlayment needed to be removed in addition to all water strained drywall in the main level ceiling from previous water damage. While doing the demolition it was noticed that mold spores were noticed throughout the home.
