Huge water loss due to sump pump failure

In the early hours of the morning, SERVPRO of Southwest Portland received a call regarding a huge water loss. There were 3 inches of standing water in the basement of the customer’s home. The basement was flooded due to the heavy rain and the failure of the sump pump. A sump pump is used to remove water that has accumulated in a water-collecting sump basin it’s commonly found in basements.
The water loss affected the master bedroom, family room, bathroom, office laundry room, and utility room. The crew of SERVPRO of Southwest Portland also had to extract the carpet in the master bedroom along with the one in the office. The damage in the home was so bad the homeowners needed to move into a motel until drying was finished.
Due to the water affecting the outlets, SERVPRO of Southwest Portland’s crew had to use as many air movers as they could due to the limited power at the home. To fix that problem we had to place extra dehumidification to cover the difference. Demolition was also needed the crew had to remove wet carpet and pad due to category 3 water contamination.
